Changes to Choice Transportation
Every parent with school-age children needs to take some time to read this letter from the Department of Education in regards to the changes in the Choice transportation under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). The Georgia Department of Education received notification in February 2012 that Georgia will be allowed to follow the State's House Bill 251 Intra-District School Choice Law rather than that of ESEA. Districts are no longer required to offer choice under ESEA nor are districts required to cover the transportation costs for students desiring to continue at their school of Choice for the 2012-2013 school. But it is important to note, that state school district has modified the notification to address their specific situation as it relates. Please the find the Choice letter in English and Spanish here.
